An 18 year old West Kelowna man is in the hospital and lucky to be alive after police intervention stopped the man from harming himself right in front of the boys & girls club in Kelowna.

Just before 11am yesterday morning, the Kelowna RCMP received a report of a disturbance at the Boys and Girls Club, 1633 Richter Street. A man was acting irrationally, uttering threats and had a razor blade. The staff took precautions to ensure the children's safety inside the premises. When police arrived, the man's words and actions lead them to believe that he was about to harm himself or someone else, and they employed the use of an Oleoresin Capsicum spray (pepper spray). The member's quick action brought a swift resolution to the stand-off as the man was taken into custody without further harm. The man was treated by paramedics and decontaminated before being taken to the hospital for treatment unrelated to the pepper spray.
