A 25 year old Kelowna man is facing potential impaired driving charges after driving his car without the appropriate number of tires.

At about 12:40am this morning, a patrolling police officer observed a green Toyota Corolla driving on a bare metal rim. The vehicle was observed weaving all over the road and was quickly stopped on Lakeshore Road at Knowles Road. The police found the driver to have gross symptoms of impairment and was taken to the Kelowna Detachment for breath samples where he blew in excess of twice the legal limit.

The shredded tire was found about two kilometers away, along with part of the inner fender that had torn loose. Police later received reports that the green Corolla had nearly caused at least one collision. The man has since been released on a Promise to Appear for Court in March, 2012.

Drivers are reminded to maintain their vehicle. Worn tires or brakes can create dangerous driving conditions. Those dangerous conditions can be compounded further by the consumption of alcohol or drugs.
