Kelowna city councillors have told their staff they do not want to spend $85,000 to install a 103-inch television in their new meeting room at city hall.

Mayor Sharon Shepard says the tv might be a little excessive for the budget, but says city staff is on the right track.

And the city's director of infrastructure planning Randy Cleveland who read the proposal says having the right kind of equipment will decrease costs at city hall.  He says video conferencing reduces travel time, cost of travel, and greenhouse gas emissions involved in travel
