Kelowna RCMP say they are watching city streets to make sure the homeless are safe this winter.

Constable Steve Holmes says they have established protocols to meet the needs of the homeless. He says sometimes 'street people' don't want to go to shelters, but now there is legislation in place.

Holmes says they have numerous support areas that are available to the homeless when its cold, and at all times.

Temperatures in the Okanagan are expected to dip quite a bit this week.
