On Sunday, August 5th, 2012 at approximately 1:30 pm, a 56 year old male from the Vancouver area was reported missing by his 3 friends, after the groups had been fishing in the small body of water in Osoyoos known as Peanut Pond.

 

The 4 had been fishing from shore at Peanut Pond and were getting ready to leave when the male decided to go for a swim, while the other 3 packed their belongings.  After a short time the friends went back to look for the male but he could not be found.  The friends used a paddle boat to go around the Pond but still could not find the man and were not sure if he had left the area on foot.  Police conducted foot patrols around Peanut Pond and Osoyoos throughout the night looking for the missing man.  Arrangements were made to have the RCMP Dive Team attend on the following morning.  On August 6th at 7:00 am, a local resident advised Police that a body had surfaced in Peanut Pond.

 

Osoyoos RCMP assisted the BC Coroner with the recovery of the body.  A positive identification was made, and police confirmed that it was that of the missing man.

 

Police are assisting the Coroner as no foul play is suspected.  Alcohol may be a contributing factor with the drowning.    

The man's name is not being released at this time.  The Osoyoos RCMP continues to assist the BC Coroners with their investigation.
