NewsAppointment of Principal of Aboriginal Education

As a result of a Board of Education motion passed on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, we are pleased to announce Joanne
De Guevara as the new Principal of Aboriginal Education in the Central Okanagan School District. Joanne is presently
the Principal at Sensisyusten Elementary School, Westbank First Nation.
Joanne has been working in Aboriginal Education for the past nine years with Sensisyusten School and the Westbank
First Nation as both a teacher and Principal. In March 2008, she received the Premier's Teaching Award of Excellence
for outstanding educational leadership. Joanne and her family have been living on the Westbank First Nation Reserve
for 21 years and she is closely connected to the community. She looks forward to continuing her passion and journey
in helping all Aboriginal students attain success in the Central Okanagan School District.
In Joanne De Guevara's own words, "It is with honour that I will be working with the Central Okanagan School
District in the capacity of Principal of the Aboriginal Education Program.
