Pine Acres Home and its B.C. Government Employees Union reached a consensus yesterday on its collective bargaining agreement.

“WFN and BCGEU were able to develop a framework which achieved the objectives of both organizations,” said Chief Robert Louie.  “Included is the provision for increased hours of care, meaning more jobs and additional resident services, all within a cost-effective framework.”

Pine Acres will begin to immediately operate under the new three-year term. 

“WFN works hard to promote a healthy and prosperous future.  Part of this process is to ensure all services are being delivered in the most sustainable and financially responsible manner,” said Louie.  “We thank everyone for their hard work and commitment to achieving a positive outcome for the Pine Acres Home, its residents and staff.”

Pine Acres Home is an adult intermediate care facility established by Westbank First Nation in 1983 to provide quality care for its community elders.  It has since been providing first class intermediate health care in a First Nations environment, with an LPN model of care being implemented, September 2011.  

It is the first of its kind in Canada on reserve lands as an Accredited Federal Health facility and is distinguished for its approach and commitment to First Nation cultural and spiritual beliefs and promise of excellence in care through a positive and nurturing environment.

There are currently 63 beds and 75-80 employees including Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Health Care Workers, a Dietician, Podiatrist, Occupational/Physio Therapist, Dental Hygienist, and a Social Worker.
