NewsThree suspects in custody after Okanagan shootout
Please be advised that this event occurred just hours ago and therefore limited details are available and all information will need to be confirmed through a thorough investigation.
On July 31, 2012 at approximately 1:30pm, members of the West Kelowna RCMP observed a suspicious green Dodge minivan and were attempting to stop it. While following the vehicle in an attempt to pull it over, the officer notified dispatch that he was shot at and requested back up. The suspects fled northbound in the van on Westside Road.
Additional resources were put into place to contain the area. The suspects changed vehicles and further shots are alleged to have been fired at police.
Ultimately, the RCMP members arrested two males and one female in the area of Swan Lake in Vernon. The female suspect has been taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.
This is a complex investigation with multiple scenes. RCMP members are holding those scenes pending the arrival of an independent external police department. I can confirm that the New West Police Department will be taking over this investigation and any questions pertaining to the investigation will have to be directed to them.
Investigators request that anyone who witnessed the incidents between West Kelowna and Swan Lake to contact the West Kelowna RCMP.
